Charles Lewis is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A069807.

Charles Lewis Jr. was born March 14, 1721, in Henrico county, Virginia, a son Charles Lewis, Sr. and Mary (Howell) Lewis. Charles' father did not serve in the military, during the American Revolutionary War, [1] however some family trees refer to him as "Colonel" Lewis, that is an honorary title. Charles' mother, who was born in 1700 and died in 1783, in Goochland County, Virginia, furnished supplies in support of the Continental Army, in 1780, 1781, and 1782. [2] Mary (Howell) Lewis is honored for her patriotic service by the Daughters of the American Revolution as DAR Ancestor #A070069 [3]

Charles Lewis, Jr. married Mary Isham Randolph, born October 15, 1725, in Dungeness, Goochland county, Virginia. During the American Revolutionary War, Mary and Charles were living in Albemarle county, Virginia, where Charles and his son, Charles Lilburn Lewis signed the "Albemarle Declaration," declaring his support for the Continental Army. [4]

Charles Lewis, Jr. is honored for his patriotic service by the Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution as DAR Ancestor#A069807. DAR records indicate that Charles died May 14, 1782, in Albemarle county, Virginia.

Researchers Notes

The dates of birth and death on Charles Lewis, II Find A Grave memorial do not agree with DAR, or with the date that his Will was written. The F.A.G. memorial also says that he died in Granville county, North Carolina. Although the memorial is attached to Mary Isham Randolph as a spouse and names Mary Randolph Lewis as his daughter, there is some confusion between the information given on F.A.G. possibly giving the death date and place of death of a different Charles Lewis: https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/53669501/charles-lewis
