==Research Notes== (for further work on her profile ) Annette Goldschmidt passed away early on the morning of March 25, 2012, at the age of 97. Annette was the daughter of Sam and Freida Levin; and sister to older brother, Elliot, who predeceased her by many years. Annette was born in Portland on Aug. 6, 1914 at Emmanuel Hospital. Annette's mother loved to garden; for several years rose festival tour buses stopped at their NE Thompson home to take pictures of her roses. This passion for gardening was passed down to Annette.

Annette attended Irvington Grade School and Grant High School, graduating in 1932. In high school, she met her lifetime dancing partner Les Goldschmidt who recounted: "she'll be a cute kid when she grows up." They married and moved to Eugene, where he had begun a nearly 40 year career as comptroller with Rubenstein Furniture. Annette and Les were among the founding members of Temple Beth Israel in Eugene. Annette built a strong family and a reputation for community building. As a member of the Anti-Defamation League, she advocated for the inclusion of non-discrimination ideas (especially racial /ethnic equality) in school curriculum and organized interfaith teas to share and learn about all religions. She was the family's civil rights leader and passed these principles and passion to her two sons.

When her husband died in 2000, after a wonderful 60-year marriage, Annette returned to Portland and rekindled many friendships. She remained active in her bridge and book clubs until the last month of her life and was a member of Congregation Beth Israel. Annette had the drive and the steel resolve in her family and friendships. She also imparted a spirit of adventure throughout her life. In her 90s, she accelerated her interest in travel. She traveled to Israel; took her granddaughter on a Caribbean cruise; and visited Cuba and Indonesia to list just a few of her destinations. Annette spent the last years of her life contending with health issues. The list of medical providers who made her life better is nearly as long as her years. But special thanks to her physicians at Good Samaritan Hospital including Michael Lewis, Annabelle Ammis, David R. Noall, and Patricia Newton. Above all, our gratitude to Annette's hospice care givers, Guy Keplinger, Georgine Longfellow, and Sandra Dominguez, who supported her in her last months.

Annette is survived by her sons, Neil and Steve; and daughters-in-law, Diana and Nancy; four grandchildren, Josh Goldschmidt, Rebecca McMillan, Jordan Goldschmidt and Lauren Goldschmidt; and five great-grandchildren, Micaela and Jaden Goldschmidt, Delaney and Cambell McMillan, and Kelly Goldschmidt.

Her extended family includes Jason McMillan, Kirsten Snowden Schroeder, John and Jack Schroeder, Neilan Snowden and Kristen Goldschmidt. Her family feels a deep sense of loss, but feels good fortune for her example, dedication, high standards, strength, and sense of humor. A memorial service is scheduled on Thursday, March 29, at 4 p.m. at Congregation Beth Israel in Portland, with an Oneg to follow. She will be buried in Eugene next to her husband.
