Birth

George was born on 2 August 1743, the youngest of ten known children and seven sons of Johann Christian and Anna Margaret Unknown Lehman. He died before 28 September 1799. [1]
George lived near present-day Union Bridge, Carroll County, Maryland, then Frederick County, Maryland, and was by occupation a tanner (c1750-c1785).

Last Will and Testament of George Lemon [Layman] in the Name Of God Amen:
I[,] George Lemon of Frederick County and State of Maryland County and State of Maryland Tanner being sick and weak in Body but of Sound mind and memory thanks to Almighty tor his goodness to me and calling to mind the uncertainty of this present life do make and publish this my last will and Testament in manner and form as follows[:]
first and principally I commit my Soul unto the hand of God that gave it me my Body to the earth to be Buryed in a decent and Christian like manner at the direction of my Executors
And Secondly] do order all my lawfull Debts to be paid out of my estate-
I Bequeath to my beloved Wife Salome Lemon the Whole of my moveable Estate escceptine [sic.]
my Waggons which is to be equally between her and my two Sons Christian Lemon and George Lemon and to be for their use the Other to be my Wife[']s and at her Disposal as she may think proper[.]
Likewise I order my said Wife to have such part of the house as she may Choose to live in likewise to have the priveledge of keeping Three Cows one Calf and horse (?kind) eight head of Sheep and three head of hogs on my said plantation likewise I order my said Wife to have half the Garden as she may choose to dispose of likewise a privelidge in the Orchard to get what apples she has need of likewise Stabelline for all her Creatures what part she may think proper in the Spring house Cellar and other out houses as she has need of likewise and third of the Hay made and (Hauled) in tor her creatures for through the winter with the same
I likewise order my said Wife to have which part of the meadow she may choose and to have her creaturs [sic.] in Pasture with the others on the Plantation
I likewise order that my two [sons] Christian and George may have said Plantation tor too [sic.]work to the Shares tor one two or three years as they may think proper Paying yearly unto my said life [wife?] one third of all the raise or. Said plantation that is to say wheat Rye Corn Buckwheat pottatoes [sic.] Turnips and (flusc) [flax?], the grain to be delivered to her clean in the Bushel and the pottatoes also.
Also I likewise order these my sons for to cut and haul a (Sufficiency) Sufficiency of tire wood for my said Wife and to carry her grain to mill and bring back the flour and Stuff
and it is my will and pleasure that my said wife do pay one third of the assessment of the Land so long as she continues to receive the Benefits and at the end of these three years l order these my lands to be Valued by three Indifferent persons by them to be chosen and those my two Sons to have my Said land at the valuation if the[y] may think proper those my sons paying to my said wife one third of the Valuation in yearly sales as her need may require but if my sons would not choose for to keep these my lands at the Valuation
l order the same to be Sold for the Benefit of my Legatees and my wife to have one hundred pound out of the first sale and the remainder of her thirds of the sale of the Lands as she may need untill her Thirds is paid her the remaining two-thirds of the Amount of my land
l bequeath to my children in the following manner l bequeath to my Daughter Elizabeth one hundred and fifty pounds Specie of which order her to have the interest paid yearly from the time of the Sale of my land for her Support and if the interest should not be found Sufficient for her Support l order her to have so much of the principle paid her as will be Sufficient for her Support and l order my Excrs to put her money out to the best advantage for her maintenance the remainder-of my land Price l order to be equally Divided amongst the rest of my children and for them to receive it yearly after other according as the[y] are hereafter named
First my son Christian Secondly George Thirdly my Daughter Margaret fourthly Mary fifthly Ulion Sixthly Susannah Seventhly Salome and lastly Hannah the same to be theirs and their heirs after them forever and do hereby empower my Excrs to make a good and Sufficient title for these by lands or in case of their Death l empower any one of my Daughters for to make a good and Sufficient Title for the same to the purchaser
And l do hereby make and Ordain constitute and appoint my two sons Christian Lemon and George Lemon my lawfull excrs of this my last Will and Testament acknowledging this only to be My last will in Trust tor the true intent and purposes therein contained
in Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed My Seal this seventh day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand Seven hundred and Eighty Six. 1786.

That they heard him publish Pronounce and declare the same to be his last will and Testament, that at the time of his so doing he was to the best Individual Report for George Lehman of their Apprehension of a Sound and disposing mind memory and understanding that they respectively Subscribed their names as witnesses to this will in the Presence and at the request of the Testator And that they did also see ]acob Barnhart the Other Subscribing Witness Sign his name as a Witness to said Will in the Presence and at the request of the Testator and all in the presence of each other.
