Biography

Ambroise LeBlanc was born in September of 1829 in Memramcook, New Brunswick, Canada.[1] He was the eldest child of David LeBlanc and Marguerite Léger. The 1851 Canadian Census shows him living on his parents' farm, with seven siblings: Calixte-19, David-17, Luce-13, Donat-11, Adelaide-9, Flavie-7, and Oret-2.[2]

He married Marie Boudreau on February 7, 1854, as recorded in the Barachois church register. Groom's parents listed as David Leblanc and Marguerite Léger. Bride's parents listed as Pierre Boudrot and Marie Brun (deceased). Witnesses were Jacques Boudrot and Luce Leblanc.

The 1871 Canadian Census shows the couple living on a farm in Botsford, Westmorland County, New Brunswick, with five children: Femie-18, Matilda-16, Pascal-11, Hilaire-9, and Marguerite-5.[3] 20 years later, the 1891 Canadian Census found them still living in Botsford.[4]

The 1881 Census shows them still on the farm in Botsford. Ambroise is listed as a "Cultivateur" (Farmer) and Pascal's occupation is "Ferblantier" (Sheet Metal Worker). Matilda has apparently moved out (married?) and they now have three new children: Thadde-13, Docite-11, and Thomas-6. Fernie's age is reported as only 8 years older than in the 1871 Census.[5]

The 1891 Census shows Ambroise and Marie living on the farm with only Thadde, Docite, and Thomas at home with them. Thadde is a Fisherman, and Docite is helping on the farm.[6]

Ambroise's wife Marie is reported to have died in 1894, when she was 87 or 88 years old.[7] The 1901 Canadian Census shows Ambroise as a widow at age 77, living with his son Thadde-32 and his wife Emma-23, their daghter Phemie-2, as well as Ambroise's other two sons, Docithe-28, and Thomas-24.[8]

The 1911 Canadian Census shows Ambroise at age 87, living in "La paroisse de Shediac, District No. 6 Westmorland, Nouveau Brunswick." He is listed as a "Pensionnaire" (Boarder), but he is living with 14 other people, all with the name "LeBlanc," so they are undoubtedly related in some way.[1]

Ambroise LeBlanc's death date appears to be Mar 29, 1912. He is said to be from Aboujagane and 82 years old.
