Thomas was born on the 15th February 1824[1] at Stratford[2][3], Essex, England and baptised on 12th March 1824 at All Saints, West Ham, Essex, England, the son of William Layman (carrier)[4] and Joanna (aka Hannah) Layman[5] of Stratford[1].
Thomas's mother died aged 61 years in 1842 and was buried on the 30th January 1842 at All Saints, West Ham, Essex, England.
On the 17th September 1845, Thomas Layman married Susanna Woolfield Gill at St. James, Paddington, Middlesex, England. Thomas Layman, bachelor, salesman of Borough of Southwark, son of William Layman (carrier); and Susanna Woolfield Gill, spinster of Old Church Street, daughter of James Gill (parish officer). Witnessed by James Gill, Mary ?, Naomi ? and ? Elizabeth Gill[4].
In 1847 and 1848, Thomas and Susanna was living in Blackman Street, Southwark, Surrey, England[6][7].
From 1852-1854, Thomas and Susanna were living at High Street, Borough[8][9][10][11] of Southwark.
By 1856 Thomas and Susanna had moved to Tulse Hill, near Streatham, Surrey, England[12].
From 1863 -1865 they were residing at Hatcham on the Kent/Surrey border, near New Cross, Kent, in between Peckham, Surrey and Deptford/Lewisham in Kent[15][16].
Thomas's wife Susanna died aged 85 years on the 25th August 1907 at "Woolfield", Hayne Road, Beckenham, Kent, England[17].
Thomas was late treasurer of the Metropolitan Pawnbroker's Society, and had been ill, but was reported to be better.[18].
In 1907, Thomas was living at "Woolfield", Hayne Road, Beckenham, Kent, England[19].
Thomas died aged 83 years on the 9th November 1907[19][20] at "Woolfield", Hayne Road, Beckenham, Kent, England[21].
The funeral service was held at Beckenham parish church, Beckenham, Kent, at 1pm on Wednesday November 13th 1907, with interment at about 2pm at Elmer's End cemetery[22].
Probate was granted on the 28th December 1907 to Arthur Layman, director; Edwin Layman, barrister and Alfred Richard Layman, auctioneer. Effects: £46360 5s. 7d.[19].
