Biography

Alfred Edmund Laver was born on 16 November 1858 in Castlemaine, Victoria, Australia, the son of Mary Ann Laver and Jonas Laver.^[1]

He married Margaret Ellen Williamson on 22 March 1882 in Castlemaine.^[1] They had three children.^[1]

Margaret died in 1904.^[1]

Alfred remarried, to Flora Dash, on 2 April 1911.^[1]

...As a youth a prominent Castlemaine footballer and cricketer, he established himself as a vigneron at Woodbrook (north of Castlemaine in Victoria).... In 1891 he became superintendent and secretary of the Castlemaine Benevolent Asylum and in 1896-1924 directed the Melbourne Benevolent Asylum.

Alfred died on 15 August 1927 in Marrickville, New South Wales.^[1] At the time of his death, he was living at Francis Street, West Marrickville.^[2] He is buried at the Rookwood General Cemetery, Rookwood, New South Wales, Australia.
