Biographical Sketch
     He was educated at McKenzie College in Red River County, then studied law and was admitted to the Texas State Bar before the War. He moved to Belknap in Young County and practicved law there. He was elected County Judge as the age of 21 years -- the youngest elected judge in Texas.
     He was a temperance lecturer and served as a member of the 20th session of the Texas Legislature from the 42nd district. He was appointed postmaster at Fort Belknap, Young County, August 1861. He served collector of the Confederate War tax.
     When war broke out, he resigned as Judge and postmaster and enlisted in Co. A, 19th Texas Cavalry, and served until the end of the War.
     After the War, he returned to Belknap and resumed his law practice. He subsequently served as Reading Clerk of the convention in 1875 that adopted the new Texas Constitution.
     He left Texas in 1893 for Oklahoma, where he secured a claim on land near the town of Arapaho, where he lived until his death. He continued in the practice of law until 1900. He served as District Clerk of Custer County, then was elected Custer County Judge -- the oldest to serve as County Judge in Oklahoma.
