In 1860 Ebenezer (25) was in Afton, DeKalb, Illinois working as a farm laborer at Sylvester Richmond's farm. Also living with Sylvester and his 1 year old daughter, Amelia Jane Richmond, were Enoch Darnell (1828-1878) (32), his wife, Cynthis Ann (33) and their 1 year old son, Newton. Enoch, who had a vast number of Darnell family and relatives in the area, was also working as a farmer.[2]
He served in the Civil War on the Union side as a private in Company E, 105th Illinois Volunteer Infantry. He enlisted on 17 August 1862 and was discharged on 14 June 1865. At the time of his enlistment, he lived in Shabbona, DeKalb County, Illinois.[3][1]
Mr. Landers was a member of Custer Post G.A.R. having served in the Civil war as a member of company E, Third Illinois regiment.[3][1]
On 11 Jul 1907, at age 75, he was run over and killed by a train on the Burlington tracks in Saint Joseph, Buchanan, Missouri. USA[4] His interment took place at the Ashland Cemtery in Saint Joseph.[1]
