Biography

The Honourable Charles Lambton was born on 3 November 1857 in Middlesex, England (United Kingdom). He was a son of George Frederick D'Arcy Lambton, 2nd Earl of Durham, and Beatrix Frances (Hamilton), Countess of Durham.

He was educated at Eton College, Berkshire, England, and at the Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Berkshire.

He served in the campaign in Sudan in 1898, and was mentioned in dispatches for acts of valour. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1898. He was Brevet Colonel of the 2nd Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers, from 1900 to 1904.

He married Lavinia Garforth, daughter of William Henry Garforth and the Honourable Hylda Maria Madelaine (Willoughby) Garforth, in 1912 in London, England. ^[1]

He was Brevet Colonel of the 34th Infantry Brigade of the New Army in 1914. He was Temporary Lieutenant-Colonel and Commandant in 1917 in the Durham Volunteer Regiment. He was made an Honorary Brigadier-General in 1918.

He died in 1949 in the Wokingham registration district, England, aged 92.
