"Under Philip, the fortunes of the Kyme family appear to have revived through service to the crown. Philip was summoned many times to fight in Wales and Scotland between 1282 and 1317, served in Gascony in 1294 and 1295, fought at the siege of Caerlaverock in 1300, had charge of Bolingbroke Castle in 1311, and was summoned to join the king to confront Thomas, earl of Lancaster, at Boroughbridge in 1322. Philip acted as a commissioner of array in Lincolnshire and Rutland in 1301, requisitioned provisions in Lincolnshire in 1309, and delivered the gaol of Lincoln Castle in 1311. He was summoned to parliament from 1295 to 1313. He also found time for economic development and religious devotion. In 1299-1300 he secured the right to hold a weekly market at Burwell, Lincolnshire, and he was a benefactor of the religious houses of Bullington, Haverholme, North Kyme, Newhouse, and Louth Park. In 1318-19 he was about to set out on pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela."[2]
Philip married Joan le Bigod, daughter of Hugh (III) Bigod. They had one son, William, Knt. (2nd Lord Kyme), and two daughters: Lucy and Agnes (wife of __ Bulmer). Philip died shortly before 2 Apr 1323.[3]
