Biography

I started my family tree when, after my fathers passing I was presented with a number of paper on which my father had outlined connections with people that he knew and were relatives. Before that I had paid little attention to my heritage. As our family emigrated from Holland to Canada in 1952, I knew my aunts and uncles and a few cousins, that was all.

I did know that my Great grandfather on my fathers side of the family was a Peat digger and on my Mothers side my great grandfather was a Sheepherder both on the Drenthe Heather both definitely not middle class. My Grandfather hurt his Leg very badly in a Peat Fire as a young boy , so since he could not work, he better go to school to become a schoolteacher. My grandfather on my mothers side joined the army and spend most of his military in Indonesia. As a result he did not get married until he was 37.

I also found that my mothers Grand Mother was a Koops and her Great-Great Grandmother was a Koops. So far not related?

Hi Herman,

Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz!

Because pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants, working with members of the projects which coordinate them is essential. You can learn more about joining the community in How To #3 and in the Project FAQ.

Use the Pre-1700 Projects list to find one which best fits your research focus. Review the project pages for special guidelines and to learn how to collaborate with the project members.

Let me know if you have trouble finding projects which fit your focus. Click my name, then ask in the comment section of my page.

Remember to cite reliable sources in pre-1700 profiles you manage, or edit. (See: Pre-1700 Reliable Sources).

Hi

One of our mentors created a tutorial for the GEDCOMpare process that others found very helpful. I hope that you will too.
