Capt. Molly Kool is notable as being the first woman to earn her master mariner certification in Canada. She is recognized as being one of the first North American registered female sea captains or ship master.
Myrtle Greta Kool was born on February 23, 1916 in Alma, Albert, New Brunswick, Canada, daughter of Paul Kool (1891–1944) and Myrtle Anderson (1891–1970).[1]

Molly (28) married Raymond Shirley Blaisdell (51) (born on June 13, 1893 in Orland, Hancock, Maine; son of Fred Blaisdell and Annie (Harriman) Blaisdell) on September 19, 1944 in Hopewell, Albert, at the United Church, Riverside, New Brunswick 19 Sep 1944. Ray was a bachelor and shipper living in Bucksport, Maine.[2] After Ray’s death, Molly was remarried to John Carney of Orrington, Maine.
Molly died on February 25, 2009 in Bangor, Penobscot, Maine, United States, aged 93.[1] After her death her ashes were cast over the waters of the Bay of Fundy.[3]
