Researching my ancestors going back to Johannes Kistler, who emigrated to the US on the ship Townsend, arriving in Philadelphia in 1737. One of the sons of Johannes Kistler, also named Johannes, born about 1720, is my direct ancestor. They settled in Berks county and his son Abraham moved to Perry county sometime before 1783.

My mother's maiden name was Zang, also from Germany through Monroe Michigan. Other names in my family tree are Shope (Schopp), Reeves, Gray, Purdy, Loy, Fossellman and Bower (Bauer).

Biography
Barry was born on Dec 14 1948 in General Hospital in Akron Ohio. He attended Fairlawn Elementary School, Litchfield Jr High School and Firestone High School. He attended the University of Akron for 3 semesters before joining the US Navy in 1969. He was stationed on 2 destroyers, the USS Renshaw, DD499 and the USS Buck, DD761. During his time in the navy he served 3 tours of duty in Vietnam. After his naval service, he worked temporarily for the National Spring and Brake Company before joining the US Postal Service. He retired from the USPS in 2011.
In the late 90s, he caught the genealogy bug and began to research his ancestors and has been doing it ever since. His biggest regret was that he caught the bug too late to be able to talk to his grandparents about their ancestors.
