Biography

Phyllis Daphne Kirby was born December 11, 1923, in Cumberland, Maryland, to parents Ashby Smith Kriby and Jessamine Day (Rood) Kirby.

Ashby worked as a splicer in a tire plant.^[1]
• 1940 U. S. Census: Phyllis Kirby, 16, lived in Syracuse, New York, with parents, Ashby, 39, and Jessamine, 46. Jessamine was 11 years older than Ashby, but told him she was 5 years older when they married. In this census record, she stated she was 7 years older.
