Mary Craig Kimbrough[1] was born on 12 Feb 1882 in Greenwood, Mississippi. She was the daughter of Allan Kimbrough and Mary (Southworth) Kimbrough. In 1892 mary was enrolled[2] in school in Leflore, Grenada, Mississippi. This was right at the beginning of the progressive era[3] in the United States. The 1900 census[4] lists Mary as living with her family in Leflore, Mississippi where her father is a prominent lawyer.

1900 is the same year Mary graduated from Gardner School for Young Ladies in New York City. She married[5] the author Upton Sinclair on 21 April 1913 in Fredricksburg, Virginia. Mary and Upton collaborated at writing and Upton claimed to have stolen much of her work. Upton has a son, David from his previous marriage. The 1920 census[6] shows the family living in Pasadena, California.

Mary Sinclair published[7] her own autobiography in 1957. She was well known for her biography of Winnie Davis, "The Romance History of Winnie Davis" and works poetry. Mary gained some notariety for experiments in mental telepathy which were considered by scientists to be gullible.
Mary craig Sinclair passed away on 26 April 1961 in Monrovia, California. She is buried[8] at IOOF Cemetery, Greenwood, Leflore County, Mississippi with her parents.
