Hi Peggy,

Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s very important to read and understand the Pre-1700 Profiles page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines in the certification quiz.

Primary sources should always be added to pre-1700 profiles at the time they are created. If you don't have a source for a pre-1700 profile, it would be best to ask for help in the G2G forum before creating the profile.

Hi Peggy

It's time for your next stop on the guided tour.

This week, we'd like to show you How to Join in the Community. There's no shortage of opportunities to get involved through social media, our forum, and projects.

Be sure to check out the One Name Studies Project to see if anyone has started a project for one of the surnames in your family. Don't see one? Follow the instructions for starting your own!

For your family research you might like to explore active projects to find a project to aid your research

Please let me know if you have questions. :-)

Hi Peggy --

You've been here a week now, and we hope you enjoyed your first stop on your guided tour of WikiTree and were able to make good use of the things you learned.

Our next stop will give you some pointers on how to make your profiles stand out: How to Edit a Profile.

As always, your questions are welcome!

Shirley

Hi,

I just wanted to check in with you to see how things are going. If you have any questions about WikiTree please feel free to contact me. Michelle~WikiTree Mentor

Hi Peggy,

Thanks for volunteering! You are now a full member of the WikiTree community, and you can start adding your family. Once you sign the Honor Code, you'll be able to fully participate and edit Open profiles, as well.

Since WikiTree is different from other genealogy sites, we have a guided tour to help new members learn their way around.

The first stop is How-To #1: How to Start Climbing Our Tree. The How-To's are intended to be visited about once a week, but feel free to work through them at your own pace.

To meet other WikiTreers, check out our G2G forum, including the question of the week. “Do you have a French connection?”

Enjoy! David ~ Wiki Greeter

Hi Peggy,

Welcome to WikiTree! The email we just sent has helpful links to get you started.

WikiTree is different than other genealogy websites because our goal is to have one profile per person, and that means we share ancestors and work together as a BIG collaborative team!

What brings you to WikiTree? Do you have research you’d like to share? Are you interested in how your family fits into the big tree?

When you confirm your email address, you’ll be given an opportunity to volunteer to help document our collective family history. Use the Tags and comments to tell us about your genealogical interests.

When you volunteer, one of our Greeters will confirm your membership. Then you'll be able to add your family to the tree!

We’re really glad you’re here.

P.S. You can always split your GEDCOM into smaller segments. I can help with this if you have any questions. Thanks!
Hi!

Our vision is to build a collaborative tree with one profile per person. The farther back you go, it's likely you will find duplicate profiles to link into, so it's a good idea to do a search before you create a new profile.

Do you have Royal Ancestors? If so, they are already here! Please contact the EuroAristo Project to discuss connecting your family line to their already existing profiles.

WikiTree strives to be a fun, collaborative, productive site. It's also different than what many people are used to. Please take advantage of the Help Menu in the upper right hand corner, our G2G Forum and of course, our Mentors :)

Do you have any questions I can help with?

Eowyn ~ Mentor/Team Member

Welcome to our community, Peggy. Thanks for your willingness to share your data so we'll have your families represented on WikiTree. If you have genealogy software on your computer you could separate your GEDCOM into a series of smaller ones by doing one branch at a time.

Our Honor Code, G2G forum, help pages, search features, and many other useful links can be accessed from the menus on the upper right corner of most pages.

VERY IMPORTANT: The more documents, sources, dates, and locations you provide on the profiles you create, the stronger your branches and our mutual global tree will be. If you don't know the correct date, please estimate using before or after.

Thank you for helping in our mission to build a global tree with only one profile per person.

Hope you enjoy WikiTree!

Hi Peggy,

You are now a member of the WikiTree Community. Please note we are trying to build one Collaborative Tree which means one profile per person. It is important to ensure no duplicates are entered as you add any Profiles to WikiTree.

If you need any help getting started check out the help section from the menu, top left, or head over to the G2G forum, you might want to check out the introductory WikiTree video that a member created.

Our Mentor Team are a friendly bunch of volunteers who will be glad to help you with specific problems if you have any.

Good luck growing your branches, and thanks for offering to help with our shared tree :)

My name is Peggy Kephart Morrow. I was initially looking for ancestors, but found the Wiki Tree was missing information on my family that I knew. I hope to volunteer to upload information that I have. My Gedcom is to large to upload at this time, but I want to, so I may need to do some pruning. Surnames I am interested in are Kephart, Hughey, Boggs, Barney, Cary, and many, many more.
