Al Joiner is an American track and field coach and former athlete. He was a gold medalist in the triple jump at the 1984 Olympics.

Al Joyner was born Alfredrick Alphonzo Joyner on 19 January 1960 in East St. Louis, Illinois, United States,[1] to Alfred and Mary Joyner, both then in their teens. Alfred Joyner Sr. worked in construction and on the railroad while Mary Joyner was a nurse’s aide. Al Joyner’s younger sister, Jackie, born in 1962, went on to win six Olympic medals in track and field, including three gold, and was named “Greatest Female Athlete of the 20th Century” by Sports Illustrated for Women. The siblings had two younger sisters, Angela and Deborah.[2]

He won his own gold medal in the triple jump at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.[2]

On October 10, 1987, Al Joyner married track athlete Florence Griffith, later known as "Flo-Jo". The two met in 1980 at the Olympic trials registration. He later became his wife's coach. Florence Griffith Joyner won three gold medals at the 1988 Olympic Games. Their daughter Mary Ruth Joyner was born in 1990. Florence Griffith-Joyner died from an epileptic seizure at the age of 38 in 1998. [3]

On June 28, 2003, he married Alisha Biehn in Laguna Niguel, California, with whom he has a son and a daughter. [2] [4]
