Biography

Loy was born in 1911 and died 05 Jun 2002 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

Dr. Jordan was born in Vernon, Alabama and was a resident of Tuscaloosa for 50 years. After two stints in the army and attending Alabama Polytechnic Institute in Auburn and Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, he received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree from A.P.I. in 1948. While at Auburn, he was a member of Alpha Psi fraternity and played football for Coach Jack Meagher.
After working with the U. S. Department of Agriculture in Mexico, he moved to Tuscaloosa in 1952. He owned Jordan’s Animal Hospital until retirement in 1995.

Obituary

TUSCALOOSA - Funeral service for Dr. Loy Jordan, 90, will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Central Church of Christ with Mike Seale and Everett Geddie officiating. Burial will be in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park.
Dr. Jordan died June 5 at Tuscaloosa VA Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leona Wheeler Jordan and John Alexander Franklin Jordan; a sister, Kara Mordecai and brothers, John A., O.T. and Collier Jordan. He was born in Vernon and was a resident of Tuscaloosa for 50 years.
After two stints in the Army and attending Alabama Polytechnic Institute in Auburn and Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Md., he received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree from A.P.I. in 1948. While at Auburn, he was a member of Alpha Psi fraternity and played football for Coach Jack Meagher.
After working with the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Mexico, he moved to Tuscaloosa in 1952. He owned Jordan's Animal Hospital until his retirement in 1995.
He was an active member of the Tuscaloosa community. Among the many organizations he was involved with were past president, Alabama Academy of Veterinary Practice; Alabama High School Athletic Association; past commander, American Legion Post 34; Honorary Life Member, American Veterinary Medicine Association; Golden Eagle member, Auburn Alumni Association; deacon, Central Church of Christ; Paul Harris Fellow; Tuscaloosa Rotary Club; 32nd Degree Mason; past president, Tuscaloosa Shrine Club; Order of the Scottish Rite; Patron, Eastern Star; past vice president, Tuscaloosa Quarterback Club; Tuscaloosa Tip Off Club; Tuscaloosa YMCA.
He is survived by his wife of more than 61 years, Geraldine (Lucy) Jordan; daughter, Mitzi Ford and husband Travis of Talladega; son, Michael and wife Shelley of Tuscaloosa; sister, Minnie J. Mitchell of Nashville, Tenn.; granddaughters, Emily Caroline Ford and Anna Jordan Ford; grandsons, John Alexander Jordan and Reeves Davis Jordan; many sisters-in-law; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Pallbearers will be Johnnie Aycock, Bert English, Ray Farabee, James H. Ford Jr., Dr. Ed Mosely, John Smelser, Dr. Richard Thigpen and Don Wheeler.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the American Legion Post 34, "Meagher's Marauders", Rising Virtue Masonic Lodge No. 4, Tuscaloosa Rotary Club, Tuscaloosa Shrine Club and Tuscaloosa County Veterinary Medical Association, Dr. John Burnam, Dr. Leonard Jones, Dr. Omar Baker, Dr. George Miller, D.O. McClusky and Dr. Ross Vaughn.
In addition, special thanks from the family go to the staffs of VA Medical Center Station No. 2 and Heritage Nursing Home Station No. 1.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Tuscaloosa Rotary Club Foundation or Central Church of Christ Building Fund.
