Biography

Mary (Jones) Maidment was born in Monmouthshire, Wales.

Mary was born in 1853 in the Abergavenny registration district of Monmouthshire, Wales. She was the daughter of Thomas Jones and Elizabeth Hooper. ^[1]

In 1861 Mary was recorded as an 8 year old scholar in the household of her 35 year old, married, shoemaker, father Thomas Jones at Lower Place Abercarn, Mynyddyslwyn, Monmouthshire. His 34 year old dressmaker mother, Elizabeth and siblings Francis 12, Thos 4 and Claraan 3 were also recorded in the household.^[2]

In 1871 Mary was recorded as a 17 year old domestic servant, daughter in the household of her 45 year old shoemaker father Thomas at 26 Square, Mynyddmaen, Monmouthshire, Wales. Her mother Elizabeth 33 and siblings Francis 22, Benjamin 19, John Thos 14, Clara A 11, William H 9, Elizabeth A 7 and Sidney 4 were also recorded in the household.^[3]

Mary married Edwin Maidment in 1873 in Cardiff, Glamorganshire, Wales.^[4]

In 1901 Mary was recorded in the household of her 52 year old below ground coal miner hewer, husband Edwin Maidment at Railway Terrace, Ystradyfodwg, Glamorganshire, Wales. There children Thomas George 19, Annie 17, Edwin 14, James 11 and Daisy 8 were also recorded in the household. Mary's younger sister Elizabeth Pring 37 and her 2 daughters Elizabeth Pring 3 and Edith Pring under 1 year were also recorded in the household.^[5]

In 1911 Mary was recorded in the household of her 62 year old coal miner hewer husband at Penygraig Rhondda, Glamorganshire, Wales. Their children James Henry 20 and Daisy May 18 were also recoded in the household as was a nephew Thomas Jones 12 and a boarder Herbert Hussey 35.^[6]

Mary became a widow on 19 September 1924 when her husband Edwin passed away. They had been living at 24 Crawshay Road, Penygraig. ^[7][8]

Mary Ann Maidment (age 78) a widow of 12 Blaenlau Street Penygraig passed away on 2 June 1932 at Penygraig, Pontypridd, Glamorgan, Wales, United Kingdom.^[9][10]
