Where was she for 26 years? My first guess was, institutionalized. And looking at her death certificate, I see the informant was from the Kanakee State Hospital -- the State Hospital system was a system of public mental institutions, which were largely decommissioned in the late 1970s / early 1980s. So -- that's where she was, and why her children's obituaries don't mention her. She likely shows up in the census records local to Kanakee.
