[1] She was baptized on March 27, 1860. [1] The witnesses to her baptism were Per Johan Jonsson[?] and Lisa Jandotter[?]. [1]

On June 16, 1900 "Tillie" appeared in the census with her husband and 6 children. [21] They were living at 443 W 106th St in Chicago. [21]

Mathilda's father died in 1902. His estate record said that he had a daughter Mathilda Johansdotter living in Chicago. [22]

Her husband Lewis died in Chicago on April 9, 1906. [23] Lewis was residing at 552 N 103 St in Chicago when he died [23], and Mathilda probably was as well.
In 1909 she appeared in the Chicago city directory at 242 55th under the name Tilly Nelson. [24]
From 1911 through 1914 she appeared in the Chicago city directory at 1379 E 55th under the name Tillie Nelson. [25] [26] [27] [28] Chicago renamed the streets around this time so 242 55th and 1379 E 55th may be the same residence.
On 3 August 1918 she married Marlin Rice in Noble County, Indiana. [29]
In 1919, Mathilda was the emergency contact for her son, Frank. She was living at 113 Miller St. in Ligonier, Indiana. [30]
She appeared in the 1920 US Census at 113 Miller St. in Ligonier, Indiana. [31] She was living with her husband Marlin. [31]
Mathilda was living at 523 Independence Ave in Chicago by 1940. [32]
Mathilda died on July 24, 1940 at Kankakee State Hospital in Kankakee, Illinois. [32] Her immediate cause of death was generalized arterio-sclerosis. [32]

- Jamie looked for an obituary in the Chicago Tribune online archive, but didn't find one.
- Jamie looked for Mathilda in the 1915 Chicago city directory on Fold3 and could not find her under Tillie Nelson, Mathilda Nelson, or Matilda Nelson (as widow of Louis).
- Jamie looked for Mathilda in the 1916 Chicago city directory on Fold3 and could not find her under Tillie Nelson, Mathilda Nelson, or Matilda Nelson (as widow of Louis).
- Jamie looked for Mathilda in the 1923 Chicago city directory on Fold3 and could not find her under Tillie Nelson, Mathilda Nelson, or Matilda Nelson (as widow of Louis).
- Jamie searched for Mathilda/Thilda/Matilda Johansdotter/Johansson/Johnson in all immigration databases on Ancestry but only found one potential match. This match was disproved through research by Mats Ahlgren.
- Jamie looked for an entry for Mathilda in the Bredsäter moving out book and the Lugnås moving in book to document her leaving Lindskvarn and returning to Aspelund on November 8, 1883. She didn't see an entry in either book.
- Jamie looked for Mathilda at the Kankakee State Hospital in the 1940 census (ED 46-39).
