Mary Jewel married Samuel Worden at St Kew[1] on 18 September 1725 (old style),[2][3] or 29 September 1725 (new style).
By the Calendar (New Style) Act 1750,[4][5] which became law on 27 May 1751, Great Britain adopted a calendar identical to the Gregorian calendar. In the 18th century (after 28 February 1700) the old style British calendar and the Gregorian calendar differed by 11 days; the changeover was effected by omitting the days from 3 September to 13 September (inclusive), so that the day after 2 September 1752 (old style) was 14 September 1752 (new style). Furthermore, the new style act made 1 January the first day of the year, rather than 25 March as previously.
Samuel and Mary Worden had four daughters and two sons.
Ann, baptized on 20 October 1726 (or 9 October 1726 O.S.);[6]
Mary, baptized on 24 May 1728 (or 13 May 1728 O.S.);[7]
Samuel, baptized on 11 April 1730 (or 31 March 1730 O.S.);[8]
Martha, baptized on 19 March 1732 (or 8 March 1731 O.S.);[9]
Grace, baptized on 16 March 1734 (or 5 March 1733 O.S.);[10]
John, baptized on 5 March 1737 (or 22 February 1736 O.S.).[11]
Samuel (Mary's husband) was buried at St Kew on 15 April 1771.[12][13][14] His will is preserved at Kresen Kernow;[15] it is document AP/W/2800, described as "Will of Samuel Worden, yeoman, of St Kew" and dated 1771.[16] A digitized version can be freely downloaded[17] from the FamilySearch website; for a transcription see Samuel's WikiTree biography.
Since Mary is not mentioned in her husband's will, she surely must have died before him. There is only one St Kew burial that fits: a Mary Worden was buried at St Kew on 15 January 1766.[18][19]
