James Allison Jenkins was born on December 28, 1810 in Elizabethtown, Hardin, Kentucky, United States, son of Phillip Jenkins (1776–1859) and Hannah Abraham (~1768–~1840).

James (21) married Malinda Ervin Irwin (19) (born about 1812 in Kentucky; daughter of Benjamin Irwin and Catharine (Lasley) Irwin) on February 20, 1832 in Hardin County, Kentucky.[1] Their son was Eli Jenkins (1834– ).

James (26) married Susan Irwin (31) (born about 1805 in Nelson County, Kentucky; daughter of Benjamin Irwin and Catharine (Lasley) Irwin) on June 28, 1837 in Hardin County, Kentucky.[2] Their daughter was Malinda Jenkins (1838–>1881).

In 1850, James (39) in Harrison Township, Harrison, Indiana, United States. [3]

In 1860, James A (48) in Heth Township, Harrison, Indiana, United States. [4]

In 1870, James (58) head of household in Heth Township, Harrison, Indiana, United States. [5]

James died on July 29, 1879 in Mauckport, Harrison, aged 68. He was buried in Union Chapel Cemetery, Laconia, Harrison County, Indiana.[6]
