Nice to hear from you! As it happens, I've recently been looking into my 4th ggm Catherine Westfall, who was sister of Sarah Westfall, your 5th ggm. On ancestry.com there are DNA matches for me that have Sarah as an ancestor, so I'm pretty sure that our Westfall connection is real. This means (for both of us) that we are descendants of the early New Netherland couple Anthony Jansen Anthonis (Jansen) van Salee (abt.1607-1676) and Grietje Reyniers Grietje Reyniers (1602-1666), a sort of infamous couple if you believe the stories about them. And many other early Dutch settlers, of course.

Catherine Westfall's husband Cornelius Bogart is sort of mysterious, and I've been trying to find out more about him: he was probably sentenced to death for refusing to enlist in the rebel army during the Rev War, but he was granted clemency and must have survived, because he has descendants including me.

Cornelius Bogart must descend from Sarah Rapalje's second husband surname Bogart. I descend from Sarah's first husband Hans Hansen Bergen.

You may be right. There were two or three different early Bogart family lines, and I have trouble keeping them straight. The family line I most likely descend from came south from Fort Orange (now Albany) area, and they and related families migrated south and west toward what is called the Minisink area near the Delaware River, including Hunterdon County, NJ. An early Bogart in this line is Hendrick Bogart Hendrick Corneliszen (Van den Bogaert) Bogard (abt.1656-bef.1716). The Westfalls, by the way, were part of a different group that migrated to the Minisink area too, but seem to have ended up in Sussex County, NJ, or just across the river in Bucks County, PA.

I descend from Catherine (Emmens) Westfall's daughter Sarah (Westfall) Hamilton. She drowned and her husband Thomas Hamilton remarried Lydia Colborn. Thomas and Sarah's son James Hamilton moved to Meadville, Pennsylvania where my mom, her mother and Hamilton ancestors are buried. I was born and raised in another state. Mom died age 49 from smoking and my dad died age 52 from alcoholism. I like to write stories about my ancestors. How I'm Related to Johnny Carson:

Nathaniel Westfall and Catherine Emmens. Sarah Westfall and Thomas Hamilton. Hannah Hamilton daughter of Sarah and Thomas married Jonathan Colborn brother of Lydia Colborn became Mormons. Catherine Colborn and Ezra Vincent. Also Mormons Viola Vincent and Samuel Hardy. Ella Hardy and Christopher Carson. Homer Carson and Ruth Hook. Johnny Carson.
