Biography
Robert was born in 1841. His mother was Ellen Jamieson, a widowed shopkeeper who was murdered by Royal Navy captain John Knatchbull.
Robert and his sister Polly were adopted by Robert Lowe and Georgiana Orred. Robert had led the unsuccessful defence of their mother's murderer, who was hanged for the murder.
Robert and Polly left Australia for England in 1850 with their adopted parents.
In 1851 Robert was in his adopted parents' household in St George Hanover Square, London. [1]
