Biography

William was born about 1837 in Dunfermline. He was the son of William Hynd and Jane McLeod. In 1851 he was living in the home of his maternal grandparents and working as a hand loom weaver. In the 1851 census Wm (age 14), Hand Loom Weaver, was the grandson of Alex Mc Leod in West Nethertown No 10, Dunfermline, Fife.^[1]

William married Elizabeth on the 18th of January 1858. ^[2][3] He was 21 years old. He was a weaver. Elizabeth was 20 and a power loom weaver. Both were residents of Dunfermline. William's parents were William Hynd (bleacher) and Janet Mcleod (unmarried) Elizabeth's parents were David Strachan Weaver and Margaret Brand.

In the 1861 census William (age 24) was the head of household on Golfdrum St, Dunfermline Burgh, Fife. He was a Damask Weaver.^[4]

In the 1871 census William (age 34) was the head of household on Golfdrum Street, Dunfermline Burgh, Fife. He was a Factory Dresser.^[5][6]

In the 1881 census William (age 44), Power Loom Tenter, was the head of household at 8 Caledonia Pl, Perth East Church, Perthshire.^[7][8]

The family are living in Perthshire now which may be where the original idea that he was born in Perth came from They are back in Dunfermline 10 years later In the 1891 census William (age 54), Power Loom Tenter, was the head of household in Victoria Str, Dunfermline, Fife.^[9][10]

In the 1901 census William (age 64) was the head of household at 44 Harriet St, Sinclairtown, Dysart, Fife. He was an Assistant Linen Factory Manager.^[11][12]

William's death (age 69) was registered in 1905 in the Dysart district.^[13]
