I started this project as something to do during the COVID-19 quarantine. I am also undergoing an autologous stem cell transplant in August of 2020 for the treatment of a rare blood disorder called AL Amyloidosis. I plan on working on my tree during my recovery while I am in isolation.

2021 update: Great news, I received the latest blood work results, and my doctor says that I am in complete remission as of December 20, 2021. Only one year after going through a stem cell transplant, chemo, and a three-week hospital stay. I have plans to continue working on my family tree, as of Apr 2023 I have connected over 2500 relatives. Along the way I have found some large branches, some stray leaves, a few twigs and a lot of nuts.

Biography

Born on August 3, 1968, at Alvin General Hospital in Alvin, Texas. He was born one month premature and came out breech. He had a happy childhood growing up in Alvin, Houston and Sheldon Communities. He excelled in sports, playing baseball, football, basketball, and running track. After graduating from C E King High School in Houston, Texas, Dennis earned a scholarship in Chemistry at San Jacinto Junior College. During this time, Dennis work at Big Chief Supermarket where he became a manager at the age of 19. After Graduating with an Associates of Arts degree from San Jacinto College, Dennis moved on to attend Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. He attended classes there for five semesters before returning home to take a break and reassess his goals in life.

During this time, Dennis had applied for several higher paying jobs at chemical plants in the Pasadena and Baytown area in Texas. Through the help of a family friend, he was able to get hired by Ethyl Chemical Corp. in their Quality Control Lab. There he managed to earn more money and he was able to move out of his childhood home by age 23. While the work at Ethyl (Which later became Albemarle Chemicals) was steady, shift work didn't really agree with him, and he found a way to adjust his schedule so that he could enroll at the University of Houston as a part-time student. By taking two classes a semester, year-round, Dennis was able to earn his Baccalaureate Degree in English Literature with a minor in Chemistry in May of 1999.

Around the same time, Dennis began working part-time for a company called 24 Hour Fitness. He started there as a Floor attendant and worked his way up to a Personal Trainer/Manager. Over nine years and six different gyms, Dennis met thousands of people from all walks of life including Olympic and professional athletes, television personalities, Mothers, Fathers, Grandparents, politicians, and their families.

One of the most important people that Dennis met that would change his life was Susan Lackson. They met at the gym in The Woodlands, Texas after being introduced by one of his clients who happened to one of her friends. They married on November 5, 2005, at 5:00 pm at The Woodlands United Methodist Church. They have one daughter and one son.

Hi Dennis, it's been eleven days since I asked if your still interested in the US Civil War Project. I'll assume if I haven't heard from you in the next ten days that your interest in the project has changed, and I'll remove your badge. I'd appreciate hearing from you. Thank you.

Sorry for not responding. I have been dealing with some health issues over the last six months and don’t always get around to answering emails. It’s okay with me if you drop me from the Civil War Project as I haven’t found many relatives that were involved on either side. Thanks for contacting me and letting me know about changing my status.

Dennis - thank you for all the Weaver profiles you've been creating and connecting. I lead a YDNA study for the Weavers of the southeast and we are looking from living male descendants of your Weaver line, who have the surname of Weaver, to take the test. Based on your knowledge and work with this Weaver line, I wonder if you know of any such men who would be open to taking the test. If you'd like to join our group, click here and answer the 3 questions. Looking forward to hearing back from you.

Thank you, again Jim

Thank you. I have enjoyed working on the Weaver family as they are a very large one that hasn't been added to Wikitree. However, I am not a Weaver descendant. My relationship to the Weavers is through the Akins family, my great-grandmother was an Akins and two of her relatives married into the Weaver Family. As I was working on the Akins part of my tree, I ran into these two marriages and all of their children. It's difficult for me to leave a family only partially complete so I created profiles for their children and added them to the Weaver/Akins family tree. My only hopes are that I didn't make any mistakes or forget to add someone. Feel free to make any corrections on the profiles as you find them.

Understood. You work is very much appreciated. If you ever run across a living Weaver male, let me know as I will pay for the YDNA test.

Thanks, again Jim

Hi Dennis,

Congratulations on being in complete remission from Amyloidosis! I hope you found joy while working on your family tree - connecting over 20,000 relatives is certainly a remarkable accomplishment.

Have you considered participating in one of WikiTree's Connect-A-Thons? It's an opportunity to add new profiles, whether or not they are family members. The next one will run from Friday, April 22nd to Monday, April 25th. I encourage you to sign up in the G2G forum registration post (https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/1392037) and add another badge to your collection. I invite you to join the Mid-Atlantic Team since your Nichols branch has ties to Pennsylvania and Connecticut.

Yes, I am still interested. I am starting add badges to profiles and it’s a lot of work. Didn’t do it before because it didn’t make sense on how to add them or where to add them in the profile.

Hi Dennis,

Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz!

Because pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants, working with members of the projects which coordinate them is essential. You can learn more about joining the community in How To #3 and in the Project FAQ.

Use the Pre-1700 Projects list to find one which best fits your research focus. Review the project pages for special guidelines and to learn how to collaborate with the project members.

Let me know if you have trouble finding projects which fit your focus. Click my name, then ask in the comment section of my page.

Remember to cite reliable sources in pre-1700 profiles you manage, or edit. (See:https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Pre-1700_Profiles#Cite_reliable_sources).

Hi Dennis

Thank you for signing the Honor Code and for adding your DNA Test information to your profile on WikiTree. Your information will be propagated to the profiles of your parents and your ancestors within about 24 hours of being added. It will also propagate to the profiles of the descendants of your ancestors, so they may see your information under the heading "DNA Connections" just as you can see theirs.

Getting started with DNA outlines how to proceed to use your DNA test information on WikiTree and DNA is a link to a collection of links about WikiTree's many features involving DNA.

The DNA Connections list on your profile will provide a visual way for you to find potential relatives on WikiTree who have also added their DNA test information. Using DNA tools at sites like GEDMatch.com, if you find a relative that matches your DNA sufficiently and you have genealogical sources for the intermediate relationships, you can mark the specific parental relationships back to the most recent ancestor that you both share as "confirmed with DNA." For details, guidance, and examples of how to properly document DNA confirmations, see DNA confirmation.

To get the best results, continue adding sourced profiles for your ancestors until you can connect to ancestors already in WikiTree. If you have exhausted what you know on one line, it can sometimes help to add what you know on another line. The more branches you are able to add the greater the likelihood of finding potential cousins to match with. The process of identifying which branch elements of DNA relate to will better enable you to find matches that relate to the particular branches you are researching.

Let me know if you have any questions, and have fun!
