Biography

When Walter James Hunnewell was born on December 19, 1912, in Melrose, Massachusetts, his father, Henry, was 34 and his mother, Eva, was 34.^[1] The family lived in Melrose where his father Henry was a carpenter, but could not work much of the time due to a paralytic disease.^{[2] [3]}

Walter graduated from Melrose High in 1931. His mother died that year in September and his father died two years later in 1933, after a long period of disability and illness.

In May 1943, he took ship to Pearl Harbor, where he worked as a civilian before and after the attack by Japanese.^[4]

He married Mary Theresa Skulski in 1946 in Suffolk, Massachusetts. Hi brother-in-law John Copp was his best man. The family lived in Boston.

Mary and Walter had two children during their marriage, James and Jane. Mary died in 1988. Walter lived in Weymouth after Mary's death.

Walter died on March 13, 1992, in Braintree, Massachusetts, at the age of 79.^[5]
