Biography

William Humphrey was born September 2, 1721, in Saint Pauls Parish, Virginia a son of Joseph Humphrey, who died January 22, 1725, in St Paul's Parish, King George's county, Virginia and and Jane (umn) Humphrey who died after 1729, in St Paul's Parish, King George county, Virginia. ^[1]

• King George County, VA Order Book 1726/34 part 2, pge 475, dated December 5, 1729, shows that one Jane Humphrey had bound (apprenticed) her two sons, William (born 9/21/1721) and John (born 10/15/1724) to John Bourne. An assumption is made here that the father of the two boys named did not appear on this order because he was deceased, the assumption is also made that it was necessary for Jane to apprentice her sons because her husband had died, limiting the family income.

William and his wife, Sarah are found in the birth records for their son, Samuel Humphrey, born February 8, 1753, in Saint Pauls Parish, King George county, Virginia ^[2]
