Biography

Samuel was born in 1647. Father's Name Nicolas Hayt Mother's Name Susana[1]

When he came of age in 1668 he received his portion from his father's estate - a house and lands which he sold. Samuel is next found in 1672 when he is admitted as an inhabitant of Eastchester, New York where he is granted 5 acres for a home lot. A land record lists him as formerly of Eastchester in 1686.[2]

Samuel's wife was named Sarah. She was the daughter of William Noble, whose Will lists a wife Ann.[2]

Samuel was listed as an inhabitant of Flushing, Queens County, Colony of New York in 1698. Included in his household were Sarah, his wife, Nicholas, Jonathan, David, John, Sarah, Mary, Hannah, Phebe and one negro.[3]

Quaker records for the New York MM , Flushing, New York, show both Samuel Hoyt Jur and Samuel Hoyt Senyer passed away the 7th month of 1712.[4]

Will

Flushing NY, Names wife Sarah moveables and 30 acres of woodland in Flushing, son Nicholas, John when he is 21, mentions other land near of Samuel Fathams (sp?) , son Jonathan, land called Harrison's Purchase. Money to be paid to Mary Tallman.

Then mentions son David. Grandson James Haight. Daughters Hannah Haight, Phoebe Haight, Sarah Titus, each bequeathed enslaved Black human beings. Land to be share by his 4 sons: Nicholas, John, Jonathan, David. He directs that his debt owed to Thomas Cardalls for land lot 6 in Harrison's Purchase be paid...mentions Thomas Bayard and Rip Van Dam. Then he mentions daughters Susannah Griffin, Sarah Titus and Mary Huytead, Hannah Haight, Phoebe Haight to share in proceeds...

Names wife, friend Robert Field and William Willis or Wells as exe.[5][6] Will dated 21 in the seventh month (Sept) 1712. Proved 21 Oct 1712[2]

Hoyt-612 and Haight-816 appear to represent the same person because: same parents, same birthday, almost same death day. last name has spelling variations

Haight-17 and Hoyt-612 appear to represent the same person because: I don't know which is the proper spelling. They seem to be the same person

To help your determination:

The Matthew Grant record (see link) spells it Hayt. The Barbour Collection unfortunately lumps alternate spellings together. (you could contact the archives in Connecticut) Several merges have already occured into this profile (Haight), none into Hoyt.
