Private Josiah Houghton served with 18th Massachusetts Bay Provincial Regiment (1775), Continental Army during the American Revolution.

Josiah Houghton was born on April 4, 1724 in Lancaster, Worcester County, Massachusetts Bay. Baptism was on April 4, 1725. His parents were Josiah Houghton and Mehitable Warner.

Josiah announced intentions to marry Bethesda Brabrook at Lancaster Feb. 2, 1746, [1] and they wed in Bolton, Massachusetts on April 16, 1747. [2] [1]

Together they had these children:

  1. Bethesda Houghton, b. April 10, 1755,[3] d.y.

Josiah's first wife, Bethesda (Brabrook) Houghton, died in Lancaster, April 9, 1755. [3]

He announced his intentions to marry Grace Whitney of Harvard, Massachusetts on November 15, 1755 in Lancaster, [3] [1] and on Nov. 22 in Harvard, [4] and they wed January 6, 1756. [3] [1]

Together they had these children:

  1. Bethesda Houghton, b. Dec. 21, 1756.[3]
  2. Jonas Houghton, b. 1760.[citation needed]

Josiah's second wife, Grace (Whitney) Houghton, died at Lancaster, June 6, 1763. [3]

Josiah announced his intentions to marry Abigail Godfrey on Dec. 1, 1763 in Lancaster, [1] and they were wed at Harvard Dec. 21, 1763. [4] [1]

Together they had these children:

  1. James Houghton, b. 1764.[citation needed]
  2. Jonathan Houghton, b. 1766.[citation needed]


Josiah Houghton was a minuteman in the American Revolution, serving in Capt. Joel Fletcher's company,, Col. Ephraim Doolittle regt., credited to Templeton. [5] [6] [7] [8]

He died on May 30, 1800 in Wendell, Franklin, Massachusetts, United States [citation needed]

Houghton-2112 and Houghton-1965 appear to represent the same person because: I believe these are the same person, all 3 wives are valid, and the mother is the same. Death needs to be resolved.
