Samuel Hood son of Alexander Hood [1] was baptised at Netherbury in Dorset on 14 August 1715. [2] He went to sea, becoming a purser in the Royal Navy.
On 2 February 1759 at Netherbury he married Ann Beer.[3] They were parents of 3 sons, Arthur, Alexander and Samuel.[1]
All three of his sons went to sea, his eldest, Lieutenant Arthur Hood, being drowned in 1775 while serving in the West Indies aboard HMS Pomona. [4] His second son, Captain Alexander Hood was killed while in command of HMS Mars in 1798, [4] while his youngest, Samuel, achieved glory with Nelson at the Battle of the Nile while in command of HMS Zealous.[4]
Samuel died in 1805 and was buried at Netherbury on the 7th of November. [5]
