Imogen Clare Von Holst was born on 9 June 1907 in Richmond, Surrey to composer Gustav Theodore von Holst and Emily (Harrison) von Holst . She was baptized on 12 Apr 1907 at St Michael and All Angels parish churc in Barnes, Surrey, England. [1]
She was educated at St. Paul's Girls' School in London and at the Royal College of Music. From 1943 to 1951, she served as the Director of the Music Arts Centre at Dartington Hall. From 1952 to 1964, she served as the musical assistant to Benjamin Britten in Devon, and, from 1953 to 1967, as the conductor of the Purcell Singers. In addition to writing and performing her own music, she was well-known as a conductor and an author of books about Bach, Britten, and her father.
She passed away in 1984 and was buried in the churchyard at St. Peter and St. Paul Church in Aldeburgh, Suffolk, England. She is buried just behind Lord Britten and Sir Peter Pears.
