Ellen Virginia Holly was an African-American actress. She began her career on stage in the late 1950s and was perhaps best known for her role as Carla Gray–Hall on the ABC soap opera One Life to Live (1968–1980; 1983–1985). Holly is noted as the first African-American to appear on daytime television in a leading role.[1]
She was born 16 January 1931 in Manhattan, New York City, New York, the daughter of William Garnet Holly and Grayce Wanda Arnold.
She never married or had children and died at the age of 92 on 8 December 2023 at Calvary Hospital in The Bronx, New York City, New York.
