It is now believed that the supposed connection to a Jonathan Osborne and a Greta Holman is a genealogical hoax played on a customer by a "professional" genealogist sometime before World War II, and propagated like wild-fire via the internet. In fact we know the names of the parties involved in the hoax.^[1]

Gretta Hollman was born in 1704 in Williamsburg, York County, Virginia, the only child of Abraham and Sarah Moon Hollman.

On 1 July 1723, when she was in her late teens, Gretta married Jonathan Osborne. She bore him nine children, eight sons and one daughter:

Their is a probate record that Hannah files for the Adm of his Estate. Pleas+Qtrs Rowan Co., VA Bk4 P274 7 Aug 1781. Ltrs of admr. on estate of Caleb Osborn issue to widow Hannah Osborn who gave Saml. Bailey and David Craige securities in sum of L250 specie. She qualified. Their is no record of her Maiden name. You will also find out that no matter how or where you search their is no record of Jonathan Osborn and Gretta Holman and no connection with them to Caleb. I.E. Verifiable record. All Kinds of People have him but no proof.
