Carlos Wilson Holder was born April 18, 1888, in Pfafftown, Forsyth County, North Carolina, to parents John Martiun Holder and Mary E. (Hauser) Holder.

Also in the home was Mary's sister, Delilah Snyder, 58, born October 1841. JOhn and Mary had been married 13 years, had 6 children, still living. Delilah was widowed and had no children. All family members were born in North Carolina. Family could read and write, and spoke English. Carlos and Ethen attended school. John was a farmer, and owned his farm, free of a mortgage. ^[1]
