Dancer, choreographer, musician, and actor Gregory Oliver Hines, son of Maurice Robert Hines and Alma Iola Lawless, was born 14 February 1946 in New York City and grew up in the Sugar Hill neighborhood of Harlem.[1] A notable Hollywood and Broadway actor who rose to fame as a tap dancer, it was through tap that Gregory Hines expressed his utmost creativity. His professional dance career started at age five, and he performed with his brother Maurice first as the Hines Kids, when they worked with Cab Calloway in his Miami nightclub act, later as the Hines Brothers, when they debuted on Broadway in 1954, and finally as Hines, Hines, and Dad, when their drummer father joined them in 1963. He continued his Broadway career through the 1990s, earning several major theater nominations and awards for his dance and acting work. He appeared in over 40 films and television productions from the 1980s until his death in 2003 from cancer.
He married Patricia Panella in Manhattan in 1968.[2] He married Pamela Koslow in Manhattan in 1981.[3] Both marriages ended in divorce. He had two children, a son, Zach, and a daughter, Daria.[1]
He died in Los Angeles, California in 2003 from liver cancer, and was buried at St. Volodymyr Ukrainian Cemetery in Oakville, Ontario,[4] near his Canadian home with Negrita Jayde, his partner from 2000 until his death.[1]

update - I detached Truszyk Jayde-1 as his mother. His Wikipedia article says Negrita Jayde was his partner from 2000 to 2003.
