Alfred Hilton was an African-American Union Army soldier during the American Civil War and a recipient of the Medal of Honor for his actions at the Battle of Chaffin's Farm.[1]
Alfred Hilton was born about 1842 in Harford County, Maryland.[2]
Civil War Service
Alfred enlisted in Company H, 4th United States Colored Troops at Baltimore, Maryland, on 11 August 1863. His Compiled Military Service Record notes that he was free "on or before Apr. 19, 1861."[2]

Alfred B. Hilton was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor on 6 April 1865. The citation reads:
"When the regimental color bearer fell, this soldier seized the colors and carried it forward, together with the national standard, until disabled at the enemy's inner line."[4]
