Marion was born in Edinburgh Dec 23, 1805. Parents Ninian Hill and Isabella Lang.[1] Marion married her cousin Laurence (son of her father's much elder brother Laurence) a widower with 13 children on June 8, 1834 in Edinburgh. Mother of 3 children. They lived at Barlanark House in Glasgow, Frogmoor House in Hampshire and in Ontario Canada.
Her two daughters married Grahame brothers and moved to Canada. Her son William compiled and published 'Records of an Old Glasgow Family', about the Hill family.
In 1851 Marion was living at Frog Moore House in Burley village in Hampshire England with a house full of unmarried daughters: 4 step-daughters in their 20s and 30s and her two daughters of school age. Interestingly she is listed as a 'LL.D.' for occupation, but likely this refers to her source of income, her lawyer husband. They also house five domestic servants in the house and 3 more and a wife on the property.
In 1861 Marion and Laurence are living with, or on an extended visit to, daughter Janet and her new husband James Grahame at their farm and mill at Vaughan, Ontario Canada. In the 1861 census Marion was recorded as married in York, Ontario, Canada.[2]
In 1871 Marion is living at Barlanark House with husband Laurence, perhaps a brother of his, Alexander Fraser a sculptor, her son William Henry and several servants.
She died in Toronto Canada in 1874 and was buried in Glasgow.
