Born on 15 March 1693, William was the 2nd son of merchant Samuel Heathcote of Hackney in Middlesex., and his wife, Mary Dawsonne, daughter and eventually heir of William Dawsonne of Hackney, treasurer of the excise.[1] He succeeded to the estate of his elder brother, Gilbert in 1710.[1]
In 1718 William bought the Manor of Merdon at Hursley from Elizabeth Cromwell and her sister Ann Gibson. He built a new manor house to his own design on the site of the old ruinous one.[2][3]
On 7 April 1720 he married Lady Elizabeth Parker, daughter of the lord chancellor, Thomas Parker, Earl of Macclesfield and his wife, Janet Carrier. Together they had 6 sons and 3 daughters. He was first returned to Parliament as member for Buckingham in 1722 and sat as member for Southampton in 1729.[1]
William was created Baronet Heathcote of Hursley on 16 August 1733. [1]He died on 10 May 1751 and was succeeded by his son, Thomas.[1]
