Joan (Heath) Boys was born in Surrey, England.

Birth and Parents

Joan, the daughter of John Heath and Thomasine Selyard was born say 1524 at Limpsfield, England.[1]

Marriage and Children

Joan was married three times. She married 1) William Freeston say 1544.[2] They had three sons:

  1. William Freeston (b. 1545; d. 1560)
  2. Richard Freeston (b. 1547; d. 1616)
  3. Michael Freeston (b. 1549; d. 1591)

William Freeston died in 1551.

Joan married 2) Sir Martin Calthorpe, Kt., (1520-1589), the son of Richard and Anne (Hastings) Calthorpe say 1552.[2] Martin was a Alderman of London and served as Lord Mayor of London from 1588 to 1589. They had nine children:

  1. Anne Calthorpe (b. 1553; d. 1592)
  2. Martin Calthorpe (b. 1554; d. 1615)
  3. John Calthorpe (b. 1555; d. 1595)
  4. Anna Calthorpe (b. 1557; d. 1611)
  5. Thomasine Calthorpe (b. 1558; d. )
  6. Judith Calthorpe (b. 1559; d. 1637)
  7. Roger Calthorpe (b. 1563; d. 1565)
  8. Richard Calthorpe (b. 1564; d. 1623)
  9. PhilipCalthorpe (b. 1566; d. )

Sir Martin Calthorpe, Kt, died on 3 May 1589 at London.

Joan married 3) Edward Boys, Esq. (1526-1599) in 1590 at Nonington, Kent, England.[2][3]There were no children from this union.

Death, Burial and Will

Joan (Heath) Freestone-Calthorpe-Boys died on 7 March 1598 in her 74th year at Nonington, and was buried on 10 March 1598[4]in St Mary the Virgin Churchyard at Nonington, Kent, England.[5]

Dame Joan Calthorpe (alias Boys) of Fridvile [sic], Kent, St Peter the Poore, London 37 Cobham left a will dated 1597; England: Canterbury - Wills Proved in the Prerogative Court of Canterbury 1584-1604[6]
