Biography

James McGinnis Heap was born on July 31, 1863 in Missouri, United States, son of Joseph Kerr Heap (1832–1878) and Margaret McGinnis (1824–1908).[1] James' family relocated from Missouri to Louisiana by the time he was seven. [2] When he was fifteen, his father was lost at sea, he was further raised by his widowed mother in New Orleans where he worked as a store clerk to help make ends meet. [3] When his sister's father-in-law died in 1892, he served as a pall-bearer. [4]

Married: Louise M Opdenweyer, 13 Dec 1893. [5] Their children:

  1. Mary M. Turnbull
  2. Amy Turnbull
  3. infant - died young

The family lived in New Orleans. [6] At 1312 Antoine St, sharing a residential plot with two homes, the second occupied by Mother-in-law and sister-in-law, Sophia, in 1910. Wife reports of 3 children, 2 living. Mary and Amy are still censused in household. His occupation-Secretary for Lumber Co. [7]

Moved to Georgia, sometime after his daughter Mary married in New Orleans in 1916. [8]

Died: James died July 13, 1922 in Decatur, DeKalb, Georgia, aged 58. Burial: Westview Cemetery, Fulton, Georgia. [9][10]
