Biography

Elijah was born in 1816 in South Carolina. He was probably the son of Gilbert Hays who died c 1837 in Early County, Georgia and the brother of John W Hays.

He came about 1836/7 to Henry County Alabama, settling first near Columbia then later Popular Head (Dothan). He married first to Mary Harrod 10 March 1836. 2nd 22 Oct. 1867 to Elizabeth "Bettie" Tedstone. Elijah served less than 30 days a Pvt. in Captain Robert Gibbin's Co. of Alabama Volunteers during the Indian War, insufficient to draw a pension. He is recorded as buried in unmarked grave in the "Old Prospect Cemetery".

He passed away in 1897.

He is recorded as buried in unmarked grave on the southwest side of the "Old Prospect Cemetery", Dothan, Houston County, Alabama.[1]
