The 1900 census of Winston County, Alabama shows Gilford married to Nancy J., but also includes his mother-in-law, Susan Haynes, in the household.

...You are absolutely right in using the name Nancy Jane Haynes for Gilford Barton's wife. She is a sister to my great-grandfather. Nancy's parents were Hiram Haynes & Susanna Catherine Farrow.
