Harold Harwood was born in 1874, the son of George Harwood and Alice Marsh. As well as his business activities he also became a physician, playwright, screenwriter and theatre manager.[1][2]

Went into business; Managing Director and Chairman of Richard Harwood and Sons, cotton spinners, of Bolton. Chairman of the Fine Cotton Spinners and Doublers' Association, 1940. Served in the Great War, 1914-19 (Capt., R.A.M.C.; in France and Egypt). Lessee of the Ambassador's Theatre, London, 1919-32, producing several successful plays. He died in 1959.
