During the Revolutionary War, he served as a Private 1st Class in the Northampton County Militia. He was in Captain Frederick Kleinhans' 6th Company of the 1st Battalion.[2][3]
On 24 November 1776, John sponsored the baptism of his nephew, John Jacob Koch.[1]
It has been said John was a bachelor and a cobbler, and he was known as "old Uncle John."[4]
