Agnes was the daughter of Nicholas Harrington and Isabel English.[1][2]
She married Richard Sherburne of Stonyhurst before 4 August 1391.[1] They had the following children[1]:
Her Will was dated 3 November 1444 and proved on 30 November 1444.[1] In it she left bequests to her sister Elizabeth Stanley, her sons Robert, John, Nicholas and James, and her daughters Alice Tempest, Elizabeth, Mabel and Isabel. Thomas Stanley and Robert Harrington, who were her nephews[5], were named as overseers of the Will. One of the executors was John Tempest, probably the husband of her daughter Alice.[3][4]
It used to be thought by some that Agnes, wife of Richard Sherburne, was a daughter of Sir William Stanley of Hooton and hence had Stanley as her last name at birth. This is reflected in Charles Davies Sherborn's book on the Sherborn family history[3] and in Testamenta Eboracensia edited by James Raine, though James Raine acknowledged that the Stanley parentage had been questioned.[4] This view has now been discredited.
