Gilford was born in Alabama on June 18th, 1928.[1][2][3] In 1930 Gilford lived at 1106 Martin street in Decatur, Alabama with his father Gilford Harden Sr., mother Nettie, step-brother Lee Nixon, and older sisters Thelma and Artie Mae. [1] In 1940 Gilford lived at the same adress with an additon of a younger sister, Onzel[2] although their father had died in 1938[4]. On May 23rd, 1945 Gilford (Age: 17) enlisted as a private (ASN: 44101452) in the Army at Fort McClellan, Alabama. His enlistment card listed his residence as Davidson County, Tennessee and his profession as "Semiskilled chauffeurs and drivers, bus, taxi, truck, and tractor," and his birth year of 1927 (a lie).[5] On June 1st, 1950 Gilford was married to Beverly Ann Wade in Dunkirk, Indiana. On the marriage license Gilford is listed as living in Dunkirk and working as a Textile Worker. [6] Gilford and Beverly were living in the Nashville, Tennessee area through the 50s and 60s. Gilford died Jun 16th, 1969. [3] According to family stories Gilford died in a natural gas fireball while lighting the pilot light on the hot water heater.
