John William Harburn was born in 1862 in Killinghall, Yorkshire, England, United Kingdom. His parents were Charles Harburn, a Blacksmith, and Mary Turnball. ^[1] (see research notes)

In 1871 he was 9 years old and was living with his parents and 3 siblings and his niece Mary White (age 13) at their home in Lingards, Yorkshire, England, United Kingdom. ^[1]

In 1881 John was 18 years old and employed as a carter driver. He lived with his parents, 2 siblings, a niece and a nephew, and 3 boarders at their home in Marsden In Almondbury, Yorkshire,Yorkshire West Riding, England. His father was still employed as a blacksmith. ^[2]

He emigrated from England with the assisted immigration program when he was 20 years old. He arrived on the Duchess of Argyle in New South Wales, Australia on 7 Feb 1883. ^[3]

He married Jane Baxter in 1886 in Woollahra, New South Wales, Australia. ^[4] Together they had at least 2 children:

Research Notes

• White it was presumed John was the son of Charles Harburn and Mary Turnbull, it's also likely his mother was a Harburn, and this isn't the correct parent/child relationship.
