Biography

Albert Hands was born in Liverpool, Lancashire, England.

Albert Allan Hands (1894-1966) was born on the 26th August 1894 ^{[1] [2]} in West Derby, Lancashire. ^[3] He was the son of Alfred Allan Hands and Frances Duff Allan ^[3] and her was christened at St peter's church in Liverpool on the 17th September 1894 when the family lived on Tudor Street in the Kensington area of Liverpool. ^[1]
The family still lived at Tudor Street in 1901 at which time Albert was the youngest of the 4 children listed. ^[4] His father died later that year and by 1911 his mother had remarried and the family had moved to Wellington Road in the DIngle area of Toxteth Park and Albert was employed as a carter. ^[5]

During WW1, whilst he was a serving soldier, he married Annie Elizabeth Bullen at St Silas' church in Toxteth Park on the 1st September 1915. ^{[6] [7]}

The couple lived with Annie's parents at 33 Melville Street ^[8] and were recorded there in the 1921 census with a young daughter. Albert was then working for the railways as a wagon sheeter. ^[9] They remained on Melville Street for another 3 decades. ^[10] In the 1939 register Albert was employed as a railway goods checker. ^[2] Life continued at Melville Street after WW2 ^[11] until Annie's death in 1953.
It was after this that Albert moved to Woburn Close in the Stoneycroft area of the city with his daughter and her husband ^[12] and he would live there with them until his death in 1966. ^[13]

He died in Broadgreen Hospital in Liverpool on the 24th January 1966 ^{[14] [15]} and he was buried in Toxteth Park Cemetery on the 28th January 1966. ^{[16] [17]}
