Hi Cathy,

Since I have not received any response to this, i assume you are no longer interested in our Palatine Migration Project, I will remove the badge. If you wish to join the project in the future, let me know.

Hi Cathy,

I am not sure what you want me to do for William Hampton. Please send me the link for his profile. If it is not created yet, then you create it, then send me the link. Also you need sources on it to prove William Hampton was really a Jamestown colonist.  ??

Thanks,

Mary, Project Coordinator, Team Leader for Jamestown.

Hi Cathy,

Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s very important to read and understand the Pre-1700 Profiles page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines in the certification quiz.

Primary sources should always be added to pre-1700 profiles at the time they are created. If you don't have a source for a pre-1700 profile, it would be best to ask for help in the G2G forum before creating the profile.

Hi Michele, Thank you! I think my problem s understanding site functionality. I wish someone could talk me through the challenges I'm encountering. :/

Hi Cathy

First question, in the welcome message from Pam there is a link to our how to page. Did you try looking through those activities. If you are a visual learn I would follow the link to Wikitree TV as that gives you more than just the basic how tos. Wikitree is a little different from other websites, so they will really save you a lot of frustration. Second question, have you tried searching in our G2G forum to see if someone else has had the same problem before or posting a question in the forum?

If none of that has worked, can you try to give me more details about what challenges you are running into?

Hi Cathy and thank you for upgrading, 😊

I am very pleased to welcome you to the WikiTree family, your contributions will go a long way to joining the world together.

It is best to start with the New Member How-To pages, they will save you a lot of time and frustration.

You mentioned that you don’t know much about your family tree yet. I assume you are new to genealogy. No problem! Every genealogist is a beginner at some point. Take your time, keep track of sources and ask questions. Check here for tips.

I am here to answer any question you have, no matter how trivial you may think it is. There is no such thing as a silly question. Please add as much information as you can, it all helps to turn a “name” back into a person. I hope you enjoy the site as much as I do.

Happy tree climbing

Pam ~ WikiTree Greeter

PS Did you know that Tags become clickable links to others researching those names, or places, that you are interested in. They also control what is included in the family activity emails from WikiTree.

Hi Pam,

Thank you so much for your kind welcome! I would love to become more involved! the last month or so I have been transitioning to a new client for work, and haven't been able to spend much time. I did import my gedcom file from Ancestry, as I have about 3k people there. I was on wikitree browsing last night, and noticed some of the non family projects. I didn't really see one that applied, but my 9th GGF is William Thomas Hampton I, who came to the United States from Twickenham, England in 1620 aboard the Bona Nova, a ship that it's said left three days before the Mayflower, but was carried farther North of where the Mayflower landed. They made their way to Virginia in the winter of 1620-21. He was a stockholder of the Virginia Company. Do you know of one? Thank you so much again! Regards, Cathy Hampton Gray

Hi Cathy,

Perhaps try asking the United States Project? You could do this by sending the project leader a private message or by asking your question in our G2G chat forum and adding the tag "united_states". To find the page to ask your question in G2G just hover your mouse over the little menu bar at the very top right over the word "help", then click "forum (G2G)".

Pam,

Thank you so much for your response! I'll try there. Cathy

Hi Pam, I have a couple of brick walls I'd love help with, and am curious which DNA test you think is best?

Thanks in advance! ~Cathy

Hi Cathy,

Unfortunately I haven't yet done my own DNA so I can't say from personal experience, however this page here explains everything you need to know about DNA testing, including comparisons. Good luck and have fun, I'm sure that DNA is bound to be an exciting journey!

When it comes to research brick walls try our G2G chat forum], its full of friendly, helpful and knowledgeable people. The best way to get some great responses would be to create a profile for the relevant ancestor and fill the biography with everything that you know, also the things that you don't know and where you've looked for records and found none. Add things like theories and family stories, these can all be tremendously helpful (preferably under a heading called "Research Notes"). When you post the question in G2G paste the full URL of your ancestors profile into the extra box provided so that your message will have his profile attached, this way other researchers will be able to click straight to his profile and will see everything that you have written in his biography. When posting your question you will find another box for tags, these are great in that they will notify others who are following those tags. Great tags would be things like the surname, location or historical event such as "Anglo_Boer_War" or "Great_Pilgram_Migration" etc.

I hope this helps 🍀
